Bake element replacement

John Seip -- Friday, 17 January 2003, at 4:45 a.m.

We have a built-in double oven (Sears 911.41155590 manufactured by Roper/Whirlpool 1995 or 1996) with a bake element that is no longer working. I need help/instructions for removing the defective element. Can I remove this element by simply pulling it out (through the oven door) or do I need to remove the entire double oven from the cabinet to get to the wiring in the back to disconnect this element?

I have removed the retaining screws (inside the oven) and pulled on the unit. It comes forward about two inches but it "feels" more like I'm pulling on wires instead of unpluging from a socket.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

It depends on how generous the manufacturer was with the wiring at the time of manufacturer. They usually leave enough to remove the element from the front... but not always. :(

You can read about that particular job at the page linked below.
