Kenmore washer - slow hot water flow

Colin -- Thursday, 4 October 2001, at 8:48 p.m.

I have a Kenmore washer (model 11092291100). The hot water flow into the tub is very slow. The cold water flow is fine. I replaced the inlet hoses and cleaned the screens, but the problem still remains. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Did you make certain that water is coming from the tap at full force?

It's possible that sediment or a mineral buildup is in the valve itself. In this case you may be able to disassemble and clean it but usually just replacing the valve is the route to go as they are not usually expensive.

After water gets through the fill valve, both hot and cold water flow through the same hoses.

I think you may be right Dan. The hot water does come out of the tap at full force. When I removed the screens to clean them, there was a lot of sediment build-up in the hot water screen. I will clean and/or replace the fill valve and see if that solves the problem. Since I have never attempted to repair a washer, I hope getting access to the valve and replacing it won't be too difficult.

It is not usually a difficult job but will depend on the design of your actual machine. The link below from the Appliance411 'Links' section may give you an idea what's usually involved.

Dan,

Thanks for your help. I ordered a new water inlet valve from repairclinic.com and installed it this weekend. The hot water flow is now very strong. The cold water flow pressure also increased. The repair took about 1.5 hours to complete.

Thanks for the follow up and glad to hear you got it working. Maybe you can take the old valve apart and see what's up with it? If you can fix it, you can save it as a spare in case it ever happens again.

BTW. The water valve used on your washer is a pretty fancy one compared to the most common one linked below. Yours has an extra solenoid on it for a detergent dispenser mechanism.

JFYI
