window a/c not cooling

serene -- Sunday, 30 June 2002, at 3:57 p.m.

I recently bought a used 92'Quasar window a/c unit that had been in storage for 2 years. It worked fine for a week, then stopped cooling one day when it was turned on. The fan is still running but it isnt cooling at all. Any idea what could be wrong? or how to fix it? thanx

Is the compressor running? If not, you'll have to find out why.

Possible causes for the compressor not running include a defective thermostat, defective selector switch, defective compressor overload protector, defective compressor capacitor, defective compressor or even just a wire come loose.

If the compressor IS running but the unit is not cooling at all, it could be out of refrigerant or the compressor is defective (which would be rare to exhibit such symptoms).
