A/C compressor on/off

george siesser -- Tuesday, 24 July 2001, at 1:40 p.m.

i have an white westinghouse 10,000 btu ac 3 years old this summer. last year i noticed some times when i turn it on the compressor dont kick in even when I lower the thermostat. I install it thru the wall, should be a window unit but the air outside never really gets hot. seems to be working this year so far. Do you think the thermostat maybe flaky. How are white westinghouse AC's 1 to 10.

Unless the compressor is running, no cooling can take place. A defective thermostat could cause the compressor not to come on.

White Westinghouse air conditioners should be as good as just about any make on the market. There isn't a lot of differences between them.

BTW. If your model has side louvers on it, unless they can still get sufficient air flow in the position you have it installed, it will not likely work properly even if you can get the compressor to run.
