dripping/condensation

patty -- Saturday, 21 July 2001, at 1:45 a.m.

my 3 yr old in-wall room air conditioner is dripping on the INSIDE of my wall. It has been running efficiently for 5 days straight, due to a heat wave, but just started dripping last night. Turned unit off for several hours, but dripping resumed within minutes after restart. I'm increasingly concerned about water damage between the wall, but am seeking a logical explanation/solution.

If the unit was not installed properly, the condensate may not be draining to the rear of the unit like it is suppose to, to be evaporated. The air conditioner needs to be tilted slightly lower at the rear (see the link below).

Alternately, the drain system that runs from the front of the unit to the back may have gotten plugged causing water to back up and overflow indoors.

Lastly, on models that have a drain hole in the base, it could be plugged and causing the overflowing. This however would usually occur outdoors on a properly installed unit.
