window too wide

How can you install a window AC unit in a window that is larger (wider) than the side panels will extend? Is there an extension kit available anywhere or do you have to wing it with plywood and foam? I can't seem to find the answer to this!

I've never seen a curtain extension kit for a window air conditioner but if one is available it would probably only be available from the appliance manufacturer or one of there part or service agents. Try to find a local one or contact the manufacturer of your particular brand directly to ask.

In most cases, something will usually have to be built to fill in the difference. What you use will be up to your own ingenuity but you should take into consideration security when designing it. Improperly installed window air conditioners can be a magnet to local thieves.

Hi all,

We usually cut and sylicone in plexy glass panals to take up the extra space. You can center the a/c and put panals on both sides...or move the a/c to one side ( maybe closer to the plug ) and use one panal. Like Dan mentioned...don't need burglers!!...one a ground level window we would drill holes in the plexy-glass and screw it in place as well as use sylicone to make it air tight.

Hope soemthing here helps,

jeff.
