Kitchenaid oven

Ron Zalud -- Friday, 7 February 2003, at 1:29 p.m.

We have a model KESO-140S serial 1803 and turned it to self clean. Following the completion of the cycle I turned the dials to "OFF" before releasing the lever. I did try to slide the lever to the left and met resistance so I thought it to be stuck and did pull with some force. Then it was noted that the lever should be moved to the left before turning the dials to "OFF". We put the oven through an additional one hour clean cycle and upon completion we moved the latch fully to the left and turned both dials off. We now can only open the oven about one inch and we can still see a latch protruding at the top center. Any ideas on how to release this latch?

It sounds like some part of the latch mechanism may have gotten bent the first time you tried. You may have to access the latch directly now to fully disengage it which in most cases requires are least some disassemble of the range.

I don't know if it will help but you can read about self clean door latch problems at the link below.

After self cleaning the range the door won't open. What might be the problem?
