Electric Oven Broiler Element Stays ON

Louie -- Saturday, 4 January 2003, at 12:53 a.m.

Electric Oven problem: We are experiencing trouble with my sister's electric oven. When using the oven, the bake element (bottom)AND broil element (top)come on and STAY on until turned off.

Normally, the broil element would come on until the desired oven temp was reached and then turn off. Now it stays on all the time making baking impossible.

We had a service call and the repairman could not find a model number or serial number anywhere.

The best information we have is we think it was made in the 1970's (guess), manufactured by Peerless Foundry in Belleville, IL for
'Citron' brand appliances.

It has a ceramic cooktop, which works ok. It is NOT a self-cleaning oven. There is a drawer at the bottom that slides out.

Can anyone help? Or give us an idea of what part to check/ test/replace? We are willing to try anything at this point.

Or is this oven doomed? Thanks for any info.

Glowing red or just getting partially warm?

If glowing red, the only things I can think of that would cause that problem would be a defective oven control or relay(s) (if used on your model).

That's not good. The only option would be to get the numbers off the defective component (whichever that is) to see if a replacement can be traced by it.

Did he not diagnose the problem at least?

Peerless now produces ranges under the "Premier" name, you can find their web site linked below. I don't know if it is the same company or not, they do appear to be in Belleville, Illinois which is a hopeful sign I would think?
