Frigidaire gas range oven not working

Peggy -- Tuesday, 31 December 2002, at 2:17 p.m.

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction...the oven on my 4 year old range has been working just fine. I used it quite a bit right before Christmas and on that day and it was fine. Went to turn on the oven last night and nothing happened. The stove top burners work, the interior light comes on but the oven won't. Would a bad thermostat cause this? Or perhaps something in the switch (behind the oven knob? Thanks for any help.

It's possible.

That would depend on the type of ignition system used for the oven. Possible systems include standing pilot (little flame), hot surface (glow bar) ignition system (the most common type) and spark ignition? BTW. Just because the surface burners may use a spark ignition doesn't mean the oven does too.

So... does it use an ignitor to light the oven burner?

Can you see it the ignitor glowing when you turn the oven control on?

Hi Dan,
There isn't anything glowing. I am pretty sure it uses the spark ignition system. Also, no gas smell or sounds. When it worked, you would push in and turn the oven knob, wait a few seconds and you would hear it ignite.
Thanks for trying to help.

On a spark ignition system you will usually hear a clicking sound until the burner lights (just like the surface burners). Did your oven used to click before it lit?

If you post the exact model number off your range, I'll see if I can figure out which ignition system the oven uses. You can find tips for locating the model number on your appliances in the Appliance411 'Repair Parts' section.

You can read about the various common types of gas oven ignition systems at the page linked below.

Hi again, Dan.
Yes, it used to click. The model #: FGF316WGSG.
Thanks for your trouble but you don't have to do this tonight on New Years Eve. The range isn't going anywhere :`)

Your range uses a glow bar ignition system so if it used to click, it was just a coincidence.

On that design of range if the oven ignitor is not glowing at all, the problem could be in the thermostat, oven ignitor or oven gas valve (or a wire has just come off somewhere). Each of those components should be able to be tested for continuity to see if one is open (has infinite resistance) or not. If it is, it is likely defective and needs to be replaced.

You can see pictures of those components at the following links:

That's Ok, neither an I.

Hi Dan,
Happy New Year! I didn't go anywhere either. I did put my stove back together last night and am now going to take it apart again. Thanks for the pictures...the manual and limited diagrams that came with the range are pretty much useless. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks again.

Then it was nice we could spend it together. :) Happy New Year.

Thanks, keep us posted.

Most often (~80% of the time) problems with such an oven ignition system is the fault on a bas oven ignitor.
