caloric gas range reignition

BYRON -- Sunday, 1 December 2002, at 1:42 p.m.

my friend has a caloric gas range. When the oven is on, all the igniters are on - and seem to keep firing as long as the oven is on. Is this proper (as I am not familiar with how this is suposed to work.) (this is a Model RLN367 UW)

I assume you mean the surface burners continue to spark whenever the oven is turned on?

The surface burner ignition system should only spark when one (or more) of the surface burners is turned on. It could be a symptom of a defective spark module itself or possibly a short in the spark module's wiring to the surface burner spark plugs.

After that, it's possible that the range's power supply has a problem. It should be checked to insure proper polarity and that the ground is good. We have seen ranges operate properly with such a miswiring only to develop symptoms years later.

Caloric is owned by Amana. If you can't determine the problem your friend may want to have one of Amana's factory authorized service agents look into. Those systems can be tricky to diagnose.

Yes.

I changed the spark module you linked to (my original one was red in color) and its been working fine since. Hopefully it will continue to for Christmas dinner. Thanks!

Glad to hear it, thanks for the follow up.
