Maytag MER5730AAA Oven F1 error

Barney -- Sunday, 6 October 2002, at 1:12 p.m.

I've got an F1 error on my Maytag stove (model MER5730AAA). I've checked all of the wiring & nothing is opened. I've got a new control panel, but I keep getting the same error. there are NO other boards in the unit. Is there some key sequence I need to enter to reset the code or to install the new board? please help or the wife will make me call the repair-guy!

No.

If the electronic control was the cause, replacing it should have immediately corrected the problem... assuming the replacement part was not defective right out of the box. (It does happen occasionally unfortunately.)

On range's where the electronic control and keypad are permanently attached to each other (ie. not separately replaceable) like on your range, a faulty oven sensor or problem in the sensor's wiring circuit can also cause that error code on some models.

Most oven sensors used these days should read about 1100 ohms when at room temperature.

thanks for the reply. the control and touch pad are a single part on this unit, and everything I've read points to a problem with the board.

the sensor tested good, as did the voltage levels coming in. I'll have to bite the bullet & have the service guy come out from the place I bought the part, so if it's bad, I won't have to buy another one. tks.

well I had the guy come out and the first thing he did is checked the sensor, it tested good. next he pulled a sensor out of his toolbox and plugged it in and low and behold the beeping and error code stopped! its been over a month now and no beeping!

he said sometimes testing with a meter doesn't tell the whole story and just replacing the parts are sometimes necessary to see if they're the cause or not.

afterward I was inspecting the sensor more closely and its wiring fell apart. next time I'll listen to your suggestion!

Yes, electronically controlled appliances can be a headache. Some technicians automatically quote replacement of every possible part (control, keypad and sensor) just so they don't get a call-back or look like a novice in front of a customer. :(

Glad to hear you solved the mystery, thanks for the follow up.
