caloric prestige gas stove bake not working

charles -- Sunday, 8 September 2002, at 9:36 p.m.

I own a gas caloric stove and cannot get the bake portion of the oven to go on. The range works fine as does the broiler. The electric start at the bottom of the oven works as I can see the glow of the filaments.

Any idea how to approach it?

Just because an oven ignitor glows does not mean it's good. It needs to reach a specific resistance before it will allow the oven gas valve to open. It's possible for it to glow and not reach the resistance.

A defective ignitor is the most common cause (~85%) cause of delayed oven ignition or oven not heating at all.

You can read about how several different types of gas oven ignition systems work at the following link. It also has linked to some diagnostic test procedures.
