Westinghouse cooktop - please HELP!

Igor -- Wednesday, 4 September 2002, at 5:15 p.m.

I'm really stuck and can use all and any help. I bought an older house (30+ years) with a very old electric coil Westinghouse cooktop. I mean this thing is ancient! and it doesn't work so I have to buy a new one... So the problem is that it is 28" wide, a very odd size, with a 25 3/4" cutout. I cannot expand the opening since I have built-in appliances on both sides. 30" is too large and 26" is way too small. Any ideas? Am I the only one with this problem?
Thank you for at least listening. I'm very frustrated.

It is often very difficult to replace older built in appliances as sizes have pretty much standardized in the recent 10-20 years. Maybe you can find a European design that is closer than current North American products? If so, expect to pay a premium for them.

The only other alternatives I can think of is install a smaller one using a trim kit like at the site linked below to fill in the difference or repair the one you have. Sorry.

Dan, Thank you! I'll give the trim a shot.
