Magic Chef 6498XRS F1 Error

Jim -- Thursday, 22 August 2002, at 4:22 p.m.

I have a Magic Chef range purchased 8-23-93. Model # 6498xrs, started beeping and displaying F-1 in Aug.1999, was advised by thier service people, that either clock electronics assy or switch membrane was bad, changed both, cheapest first this fixed the problem. I never used self cleaning again feeling the high heat must have damaged the eletronic components. It started beeping and displaying F-1 again in Mar. 2002, turned off power supply for 5 or 10 minutes, it would reset, but has now failed completely. The only time it does not beep is when your using the oven. I just called Maytag they said they were not aware of this recurring problem, told me thay dont have technical support. They gave me the phone numbers for two local service businesses. I am now, turning off power until we cook.

The cause of an F1 error is either the electronic control or its keypad. If the error continues with the keypad disconnected from the control, the electronic control is defective and needs to be replaced. If the error does not return with the keypad disconnected, the keypad is likely defective and needs to be replaced. On models where the keypad and electronic control is one integral part, the whole unit will usually need to be replaced.
