Magic chef range paint coming off

Sandy -- Thursday, 15 August 2002, at 11:55 p.m.

The paint on our range is coming off. We have model #3442 serial# 126317214437. Also the metal stripes are coming off too. This is a selfcleaning range. Is this unusual? What can we do to it? I would think that the paint that was used for the range would withstand the heat and not come off. Awaiting your reply. Thank you. Have a nice day!

: The paint on our range is coming off.

Where is it coming off? Is it flaking off or wearing off?

: We have model #3442 serial# 126317214437.

Neither the model number nor the serial number look correct. There should be numerous letters in the model number, at least 1 in the serial.

: Also the metal stripes are coming off too.

I'm not sure what you mean by metal stripes. What are they for and were are they located?

: Is this unusual? What can we do to it?

I'm afraid more information is required before I could give any kind of opinion.

8-16-02 The serial #143442 xtra serial # 12c317214437.

The paint is peeling off the bottom of the face plate of the instrument panel (timer controls, temperature controls, oven on and off and oven light on and off switch. Metal stripes (decorative stripes) are coming off. Awaiting your reply. Thank you so much.

The control panel may need to be replaced eventually depending on conditions it is subject to. It is in one of the hottest and dirtiest areas on the appliance. I don't know what holds on those trims on your model but just about any fastening mechanism is subject to wear and tear from use and cleaning.

You could try repainting the panel but replacing it may be a better looking solution. For the trims, you'd either have to replace the retainers or possibly replace the trims.

BTW. The model number you posted still does not look correct. Magic Chef model numbers usually only have 4 consecutive numbers. 3442 xtra looks close but I have no listing for that, the closest is 3442 XRA.

You can see the control panel for the 3442XRA model below but that company can get any parts that are still available for any other Magic Chef stove model too.
