Roper Range Burner Intermittent

Jim Pummer -- Monday, 12 August 2002, at 2:08 p.m.

I have a Roper Electric Range...4 burners. The largest burner (front right) will heat up sometimes and sometimes not. I always push the burner in before turning it on. Sometimes this works and sometimes not. About 6 months ago I had a service man replace the wiring for this burner (lift up stove top to get to it). Still having the problem. Also, before calling out the service man, I replaced the burner thinking it may be worn out or defective. Any ideas as to how to get this burner to work every time. Any help would be appreciated.

I assume you mean push the knob?

Someone would have to determine the cause then correct it. It may be caused by a bad socket the element plugs into as described at the page linked below. Just replacing the element wouldn't correct that. If the original element had the telltale signs, that would be a place to start.

Failing that, the problem could be in the wiring to the switch or the switch itself. Each would have to be discounted, one at a time. Whatever is left is likely the culprit.

The surface element on my range will only work if I jiggle it. Can you tell me what's wrong?

Re: Roper Range Element Intermittent

The information you gave me on my problem with the Roper now gave me something to go on. When I checked the tips of the malfunctioning element I seen they are burnt. I am going to replace both the element and the plugin block as suggested on your page about my problem. Thanks!
