GE Stove Wall is Warped!

Paul -- Thursday, 9 May 2002, at 12:04 a.m.

Would really appreciate your insights!

the left inside wall of my stove has become warped so the rack doesn't sit on the back left wall support - off by about 1/4".

What caused this and how can I straighten the wall (from the outside?)

Thanks.

Repeated heating and cooling could cause it after a time, as could rusting on its inner (hidden) surface. I don't know that it could be repaired from the outside, if at all. It may be reparable by removing the liner from the range body for access if a replacement liner is not available for purchase (the usual repair route).

You could also check to see if maybe the manufacturer has any slightly narrower racks which can be used in such a case.

Thanks for the quick response, Dan.

As the liner part is no longer stocked, I'll take a peak at accessing ours. Any tips or cautions? Thanks again

Upon reinsertion, it is critical that the insulation around the liner remain intact and in place. I do not know the procedure for replacing a liner on a GE oven, you might try contacting an area GE factory authorized service depot to see if they can supply any specific suggestions for the job.
