Elmira Stove - Help!!!

Elaine -- Tuesday, 2 April 2002, at 2:38 p.m.

Hi - sure hope someone out there can help. We have an Elmira Stove Works gas stove - it is a new stove made to look like the old wood burning stoves. Yesterday the display panel (electric) decided to stop working. The display panel (touch pad) controls the oven on/off, temperature, time, timer, and self cleaning. I called the company where we purchased it and they informed me that they do not repair them. I called the company that makes the stove (in Canada) and they simply told me to look in the phone book for qualified appliance technicians. I have called all over the place, once they hear that the stove was made in Canada they tell me that they can't help me. Any one have any ideas. Thanks.

As far as I know, the actual guts of Elmira ranges are made by Inglis (Whirlpool's Canadian division). I would think a Whirlpool authorized factory service agent (see the link below) would be the best people to call for service if there aren't any companies specifically set up by Elmira to service it.

BTW. Even if the selling dealer doesn't service it them self, they should be able to tell you whom best to call for service. JMO.

Thanks for the "whirlpool" info - maybe that will help. The dealer from which we purchased would not give me a name - I have called other stores that sell Elmira stoves and I get the same response, "you have to call the manufacturer". Interesting!!!

Thanks.

Hi

Well, we didn't have much luck finding anyone to fix our stove - so on Sunday, my husband decided to take a look at it - he's an electrician so he has a good overview of the situation, but he doesn't fix appliances. He took the back off and tested everything - everything tested ok - put the back back on and it worked - he told me something about why this might have worked - but it's wya over my head - something about going back to ground. . .

I will still be looking for someone qualified to fix this stove should something happen to it that can't be fixed by my husband's "magic".

Thanks for being "here"!!!
