24 inch Gas cooktop

S. Rosenblatt -- Saturday, 23 February 2002, at 4:00 p.m.

I want to replace my 24" gas cooktop with a new one and unable to find the size

Could you recommend a company that makes this size cooktop.

My 24" gas cooktop is harvest gold but works well and fits the space well. Is it possible to change the color on the top instead of replacing it

That's probably a less expensive route to go provided a replacement top is still available for your model.

That could be a problem. My cooktop is made by Caloric. That company no longer exists. What do you think of spray painting the top or could I take it to an auto body shop and have them spray it with car paint? There is a pilot which touches the top underside. Or is their a junk yard for old cooktop parts?

Caloric is (until recently) owned by Amana (whom is now owned by Maytag). There is a fair chance that a replacement IS still available but will depend on the unit's exact model number.

There is no type of paint I know of that will give a suitable appearance without discolouring with the heat from the nearby burners, it would have to be reporcelained. You can check with some of the companies listed in the Appliance411 'Appliance Links' section under "Restoration" to see how much they'd charge for refinishing your original top.

There may be places to purchase used appliance parts but that is not the type of part that anyone would hold on to. So I think the chances of that is extremely rare.
