Magic Chef F1 error

evangeline -- Monday, 15 October 2001, at 10:15 a.m.

How do you know for sure if your F1 error is indicating an electronic control malfunction (a $250 part) or a control panel (a $60 part)? The range seems to be working just fine - except for this incessant beeping at unpredicatble intervals.

Usually if the symptoms stop with the touchpad disconnected from the clock, that touchpad is often the cause. If the error continues even with the touchpad disconnected, the clock itself is usually at fault and will need to be replaced to correct the problem. On some models it is not possible to disconnect the two in which case the electronic control/clock would have to be replaced regardless.

There is a tool that allows testing of the touchpad (on models where they're separate parts) but is kind of expensive for a homeowner to purchase them self. If you contact a technician so equipped, they should be able to test the touchpad before replacing any parts.

BTW. On most models, the control keypad is only sold along with the whole control panel (without the electronic control) but on some models the keypad linked below can be used to repair the one on the original control panel.

For what it is wirth, I have the beeping problem also - I had a technician fix it last time and he used a tester like Dan O stated. It was the switch membrane. Now my stove is beeping again and I'm rolling the dice and going with the membrane based on the history with my stove - but I won't know for sure - seems like this is a defect witht these ranges.

I have a Jenn-Air doing the same thing... working fine but the beeping is driving us crazy. Were you able to get yours fixed?

Yes, replacing the control panel did fix it. Good luck with yours.
