Magic Chef F-2 Error

Rozy -- Monday, 25 June 2001, at 12:47 p.m.

We have a Magic Chef with the control pad in the front of the stove. It is approximately 7 years old. The other night I had I was baking cookies when I noticed the cookies were burnt and the oven was not shutting off. I tried to clear the oven temperature, but it still would not shut off and eventually flashed an F-2 error. My husband eventually shut the breaker off. I tried it again last night and it seemed to work fine. So - could someone please explain an F-2 error and if it is possible for a mechanically minded husband to fix it. Thanks.

The meaning of F2 on Magic Chef ranges depends on the design of the model you have.

It can mean either a faulty oven sensor or the wiring leading to it, or on models that have the relay board as an integral part of the electronic control, a fault in one or more of the relays.

In the latter case, a new electronic control would likely be required.

Dan - The Model No. is 68HN - 6TVW. It has a ceran top and front controls with a panel in the middle with triangle shaped buttons, a clock and round buttons on the side that control the heat and clear the temperature. The controls for the stove top are also in the front of the stove. Does this help any?

Apparently your model utilizes a separate relay board so the F2 fault code would likely indicate a fault in the oven sensor (pictured below) or it's wiring.
